Prof. Laurie Grigg is an assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. She and her students spend much of their time collecting and analyzing lake sediment cores from nearby ponds to reconstruct changes in climate, vegetation, and aquatic productivity during the past 13,000 years. This long-term perspective on climate and ecosystem change provides valuable lessons on the relative impacts on recent human-driven changes to ecosystems.
