The Master of Science in Biomedical Communications (MScBMC) is the only program of its kind in Canada, and one of four accredited graduate programs in the visual communication of science and medicine in North America.
Over a two-year curriculum, the MScBMC students are educated and trained in the creation and evaluation of a range of visual tools–including medical illustration, media and user experience design, animation, and virtual simulations.
MScBMC students and faculty win more awards, and publish more research, than any of the other accredited graduate programs in the field. The program has a positive placement rate of 94% within one year of graduation, and achieved stellar ratings on recent Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Surveys.
MScBMC graduates take on diverse leadership roles in industry, including: animation, illustration, user experience design, public communications, game and app development, creative direction, development of courtroom demonstrative evidence, health communication design, design research, and service design.
The program has made the Greater Toronto Area an international hub for the visual communication of science, with numerous enterprises founded by or reliant on our graduates, including: Invivo Inc.; AXS Biomedical Studio; Artery Studios; Bridgeable Research + Design; Lifelearn, Inc.; and Imagineering, Inc.
The Master of Science in Biomedical Communications is offered through the Institute of Medical Science in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The program's state-of-the-art facilities are principally based on the University of Toronto Mississauga campus.
