Human trafficking can happen to men, women, and children from all different backgrounds. Victims are violently lured in by traffickers who offer fake opportunities for things such as work or education in an attempt to exploit them for profit. Some people may not be aware that slavery still exists, but forced labor, sexual slavery, and commercial sexual exploitation make up modern day slavery. We cannot always see it going on around us, but in 2019, according to the U.S. National Human Trafficking hotline, there were about 22,000 victims/survivors reported. The Polaris Project helps those millions of victims worldwide fight for their freedom and raise awareness of this issue.
My designs help raise awareness and send a message to stop the crime that is human trafficking. I conveyed emotion throughout my posters to emphasize the realness of this issue, along with the human right that is ripped away from these victims. To put an end to modern day slavery, we need to work together. I hope to shine light on those unaware of their surroundings and build hope for those who can’t always help themselves.
