Uighur people are in desperate need of our aid and support. They are being held in “re-education” camps in Xiajang, China, but these are essentially concentration camps. They are stripped from their Islamic religion, isolated from the rest of the world, forced to take certain medications, beaten and tortured for minor offences, and sometimes even killed. While many countries have stepped up to say that these camps are inhumane, they continue to be in operation, and are often covered up by media or made to look much nicer than they actually are.
By creating these posters, I intended to draw attention to a cause that needs our aid now more than ever. The different styles of posters were used to reflect the different aspect of the camps, from what happens within the wall to how people arrive there in the first place. This horrific act is a direct violation of Article 18 of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, which states that “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance”.
