Abstract: Green Chemistry promotes sustainability and safety throughout the field of chemistry. In this project, the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry have been integrated into the General Chemistry I (CH103) Laboratory Curriculum. This has been achieved through alteration of the laboratory sequence to include experiments that promote sustainability and safety in the laboratory. These experiments are focused on real world applications of problems introduced in the general chemistry classroom, making course material more engaging and relevant. We hope to introduce this new set of laboratories in Fall 2021. This project has also sparked additional research into the Beyond Benign Green Chemistry Commitment and the requirements that must be met in order for Norwich University to join such a coalition. Green Chemistry is of great interest to the chemistry community, and this project has involved collaboration with other institutions pursuing these same goals, including the University of Toronto, Hendrix University, and Carnegie Mellon University.
