Climate Change: The Shared Narrative of the 21st Century

In the 21st Century, the United States and its allies have lacked a shared security narrative since the Cold War; however, climate change has become a common security issue prevalent among all allies. The implications of the growing world climate change crisis are grave to the notion of security. As over the past decade, the issue of climate change has grown in its stature and power due to its impacts on the structure of both the physical and abstract characteristics of states; climate change has grown in its importance, severity, and threat level throughout the world. This paper aims to show how climate change has grown over time in its importance and how that importance has grown into a security threat that has the power to be used as a social mechanism to bond stronger alliances. Specifically, it investigates the change in the stature of climate change and how that can be used as a motivating factor in terms of allegiance.
