Why Immunology?
Immunology is an integrative branch of the biomedical sciences that draws upon the more traditional disciplines of Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Pathology, and Biochemistry. In essence, Immunology is the study of the physiological responses that result when foreign materials are introduced into a vertebrate organism. Recent major advances in our understanding of the cellular and molecular basis of the immune response are core to the development of modern antibody therapies, cellular therapies, vaccines and therapeutic molecules for the management and treatment of various diseases.
The emphasis of our programs is to provide students with a sound theoretical understanding of the inner workings of the immune system, laboratory experience, and critical thinking and problem-solving skills, to prepare students for biomedical careers.
Come Study With Us!
The Department of Immunology is a dynamic and exciting place to be. We are a department dedicated to excellence in research and teaching.
Our department operates as an integrated, collaborative community with approximately 75 investigators, 180 postdoctoral fellows, 125 graduate students and 1200 undergraduate students. Together we strive to advance biomedical discoveries in Immunology, increase our understanding of fundamental Immunological principles and develop new applications for immune-based therapies.
