Wind power has been identified as a sustainable solution to energy needs. Development of wind farms across the world brings both support, and opposition from stakeholders. New York State (NYS) has recently approved two large scale, offshore wind farms. This will generate additional economic output for the state, as well as produce enough power for over 2 million homes throughout Long Island, NY. An appreciable benefit to offshore wind farms is the creation of artificial reefs, which improve marine habitats and fishing for the economy. This study will investigate the productivity from offshore wind farms, examine how stakeholders are affected, and determine the most feasible location off the coast of Long Island, NY. Public data is being utilized to review the wind farm proposals and offer suggestions for a successful result. Action must be taken in consideration for future generations, to move away from the usage of greenhouse gasses, and move towards a more sustainable future.
