Introduction: Blue Zones are the areas of the world with the longest living populations. There are five Blue Zones that have been discovered: Lomo Linda, California, Nicoya, Costa Rica, Sardinia, Italy, Ikaria, Greece, and Okinawa, Japan. The purpose of this project is to identify the Blue Zones’ commonalities that may impact longevity and quality of life. Methods: This review evaluated the scientific literature available using the keywords “Blue Zones” and “Blue Zone commonalities”. Results: Five full texts, 11 books and 152 cites were obtained. The nine commonalities were: purpose, wine at 5, natural movement, sense of belonging, prioritizing their loved ones, maintaining social connection, a whole food based diet, daily stress management, being mindful of satiety and intuitive eating. Researchers sought out to discover the commonalities between these five areas of the world, so that they could include the commonalities elsewhere. Conclusion: There are nine commonalities amongst the five Blue Zones. In the future, inclusion of these commonalities in everyday American life will be crucial to determine if they could alter our health status as a nation.
