Artist Statement
Left Behind is a series of narrative photographs based in a cinematic world. It tells the story of a man who was left behind in a post-apocalyptic environment. My project was inspired by the global pandemic happening in the world today. My fascination with cinema (specifically centered around world ending disasters) led me to create this series and allow my mind to explore more fiction-based concepts.
10 years after the pandemic, the world never recovered. The virus was a permanent storm that raged across the planet, leaving nothing but empty promises by the government to save us. Those who got infected were flown to a discrete location to receive help. No one ever returned. Soon all things that made us human cease to exist. Trees were quickly being drained of their life leaving behind an ominous gray. The chaos slowly subsided, causing a calming silence in the world. For some, the silence frightened them more than the disease. Burning buildings lit the night sky, an eerie white fog filled the streets and the screams of the weak were no longer an uncommon alarm. The virus wiped out 97% of the population and showed no signs of stopping. You may think those who survived are lucky, no. Those who weren’t killed by the virus or taken for “medical help” were just simply left behind.
