This poster highlights a collaborative website project my Technical Communication students worked on in Fall 2020. Our course revolved around the topic of social justice in technology and technical writing. Students worked in small groups to educate multiple audiences about a topic of their choosing related to social justice and technology. They focused on accessible website designs and created several multimodal technical writing genres in order to convey information to both expert and non-expert audiences. Topics students chose included accessibility in website design, racial justice in hiring and facial recognition algorithms, and gender issues in the gaming industry. They created infographics, fact sheets, feature stories, podcasts, and glossaries, utilizing the Written, Oral, Visual, Electronic, and Nonverbal modes to communicate their ideas.
