First Year Learning Communities + First Year Foundations Seminars Panel
First-Year Learning Communities, or FLCs as they are commonly known (pronounced “flicks”), are small groups of first-year students who are also registered in several of the same courses, labs and tutorials. Each FLC gets together on a bi-weekly basis for academic, developmental and social activities facilitated by a Peer Mentor and an Assistant Peer Mentor and with the guidance of Faculty and Staff Advisors. Coming together they create a community of learners and look to help ease the transition from secondary to post-secondary school.
FLC is a co-curricular opportunity. In your FLC, you will:
Connect: meet on a bi-weekly basis in a supportive community to create relationships with your peers that will continue throughout your university experience.
Grow: work with our mentor teams to develop academic and personal skills to successfully navigate life at university
Engage: build a sense of belonging by learning about our programs, university and city, and ways to become more actively involved.
Applications for FLC open in early June. For more information, please visit the Learning Communities website.
