Torque Mapping through Polarimetry

We measure the polarization of a laser beam before and after it passes through a transparent birefringent object and determine the polarization change. Our objects are either free in solution or trapped with optical tweezers. We show a technique for finding light torque using polarimetry (polarization measurement) and analyze measurements to learn about the torque transferred to the object.
