A diverse community of scholars and clinicians, Duke University School of Nursing is educating the next generation of transformational leaders in nursing. We advance nursing science in issues of global importance and foster the scholarly practice of nursing. We have been ranked second in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report for its 2023 Best Nursing Schools rankings. The School offers master's, PhD and doctor of nursing practice degrees as well as an accelerated bachelor of science in nursing degree to students who have previously graduated from college.

The strategic planning process kicked off in January 2022 and is off to a strong start. The school completed a series of Arts of the Possible workshops and interviews, and will be launching a survey in in March 2022 and embarking on a series of community listening sessions. The five-year strategic plan will be released in Summer 2022 and will build upon eight key areas including:

Innovate, evaluate, and lead nursing education;
Advance and redefine nursing science;
Develop, evaluate, and disseminate nurse-driven models of health care;
Expand, align, and evaluate local and global partnership
Increase diversity, equity, and inclusion within the school and broader profession;
Strengthen nurse leadership and impact; and
Diversify and strengthen revenue streams.
