Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing

Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing provides students with two pathways towards completing a BSN degree – the traditional four-year BSN and the online RN-to-BSN articulation program for already licensed nurses to advance their nursing to the BSN level.

For the traditional four-year pathway, pre-nursing students complete the general education core at one of our two consortium universities. After completion, an application is submitted to PHSSN. As a member of the PHSSN family, you will join a cohort of students from either Hardin-Simmons or McMurry universities who, like yourselves, have been accepted into the nursing program to complete the final two years of nursing education.

On your journey to becoming a Registered Nurse, students will have the opportunity to experience an introduction to nursing in some of the area’s premier healthcare agencies. Our partnerships with various communities of interest and numerous nursing specialties will expose you to a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

The online RN-BSN degree from Hardin-Simmons University is awarded at the successful completion of courses from the general education curriculum, as well as, upper-division nursing courses. At PHSSN, individuals will be educationally prepared in a manner that promotes the development of intellectual, cultural, moral and religious values.

The online RN-BSN program provides licensed Diploma and Associate Degree prepared nurses an opportunity to further develop clinical reasoning and analytical skills. This program of study expands the initial nursing preparation with course work to enhance professional development, prepare for a broader scope of clinical practice, and provide a better understanding of the cultural, political, economic, and social issues that affect patients and influence care delivery.

The BSN degree is conferred by Hardin-Simmons University, and graduates may then go on to graduate nursing programs to pursue the role of Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Educator.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).
