Developing and Disseminating Protocol for Ordering and Managing Scheduled Medications in the Emergency Department

In the emergency department, boarding patients and psychiatric patients awaiting placement at outside facilities often experience medications errors related to delays in restarting home medication regimes or incorrectly timed scheduled medications. Education regarding the ordering and charting process of scheduled medications in the electronic health record is critical to preventing these errors and promoting safe, quality healthcare in the emergency department.
