  • Welcome to the School of Nursing at Old Dominion University! Established in 1967, Nursing is the largest of the five professional schools in the College of Health Sciences. We are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

ODU School of Nursing is a leader in the use of distance learning technologies for course delivery in the RN-BSN and graduate nursing programs. In particular, our online graduate programs are consistently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as being in the top 25% of online graduate nursing programs nationally. We are also a leader in the use of standardized patients for clinical nursing education. A long-standing partnership with the Eastern Virginia Medical School/Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning enables undergraduate, nurse practitioner/CNS, and DNP students to learn critical health assessment and cultural competency skills by interacting with standardized patients.

The School of Nursing is recognized for its strong educational programs that prepare exceptional nurses for professional practice. We are proud of our consistently high pass rates on licensing and certification exams, and for our stellar record of securing HRSA traineeship and grant awards that have brought more than $7 million to our school in the past six years. Our success is due to a faculty committed to delivering high quality nursing education through the use of innovative teaching methods that are consistently recognized with College and University teaching awards.
