The American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) is the association of professional nurses and associates who:

• Are guided by integrity and committed to delivering high quality, and cost-effective health care​ 
• Are committed to their professional development and seek to actively engage an inclusive community of innovative informatics professionals​ 
• Use informatics to advocate for the elimination of health disparities to improve the health of all populations ​

ANIA as an organization originally founded in 1982 as the Capital Area Roundtable on Informatics in Nursing (CARING). CARING was developed and organized by nurses in 1982 as a non-profit undertaking to provide a forum for the advancement of automated healthcare information systems.
