  • The Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association Great Lakes Chapter advances the practice of its members and the well-being of the older adult population through advocacy, dissemination of knowledge, and provision of member growth opportunities.

A number of Gerontological Nurse Practitioners (GNPs) are members of the association, however, the larger number of members within the organization and our chapter include individuals who are Adult Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs), Adult/Gerontological Primary Care and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (AGPCNPs, and AGACNPs), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) as well as students in these types of programs.  The singular "connecting" theme of this organization and its' members is the desire to ensure access and delivery of quality care to our older adult population.  Many members are involved in clinical practice, some in education and still others in clinical practice and education as well as those who take leadership roles in research and policies involving older adults.

As the certification for the GNP credential has been retired, it would be anticipated that the number of active GNPs will shrink given retirements, etc., and the need to identify and advocate for a future "Gerontological Specialist" credential will be imperative.
